Highland Glen, Westwood, MA Highland Glen is a 180 unit community in Westwood. The building has gone through several rehab projects to improve the quality of life for residents, including the addition of a nursing/wellness suite, fitness center, gardening greenhouse, community kitchen café, and a large outdoor patio. With its Section 8 contract set to expire in 2020, the property was at risk of market conversion by other potential purchasers in 2016. Beacon saw an opportunity to purchase the property, and to combine to access the necessary capital to rehabilitate the property and to preserve it as affordable housing for all 180 households through 2040.

Susan Samara, First Realty Management Due to Susan’s efforts, the property reached an average occupancy rate of 98 percent late in 2019. During the current COVID-19 Pandemic, she has been able to keep retention and occupancy high by pivoting her marketing focus and creating virtual tours for each floorplan. She also has provided personal experiences using alternate means, such as completing tours via Facetime, or video conferencing with her prospective residents.
